Moving childcare voucher schemes

DH is very tempted by a job he has just been offered, but it is with a small start up company with no benefits set up.

He is (and would remain) a higher rate tax payer, but because he joined his current company's scheme in time he gets the full £243 a month.

If he could persuade the new employer to set up a scheme, would he be able to continue or would it drop to £124?

And as an aside, does anyone know roughly what any of the providers charge a company to run a scheme?

We've just been through a change of jobs and you will drop to £124.

In terms of what it costs a company, I believe that the money they save in NI contributions is supposed to cover the costs. Not sure how many people need to take up the offer for that to be the case though.

The company can self administer is very simple and HMRC will provide advice on how to do it.

At least one provider charges just 2.5% of the value of the vouchers with no minimum or fixed fee. The company saves 13.8% of the value so it seems like a no-brainer but the company has to pay vouchers to women on maternity leave in addition to any maternity pay so for some businesses it can be a risk they are not willing to take.

Thanks all.

At the moment maternity leave costs wouldn't be an issue, with no women there yet (DH would be in the first wave of employees). But as the only person wanting vouchers I'm not sure whether he'll manage to get them set up.

But knowing the vouchers would drop in value anyway, we can factor it into a salary request until something happens in the future.
