I haven't been paid.... since Feb.

I started work on a contract basis at the end of February - contracted to get paid a fixed amount on a daily basis. Then I was offered a permanent position so I should then have been a part of their payroll.

I've not been paid a penny. I've yet to receive a single payslip.

I've spoken several times to my line manager (am a civil servant so payment comes from the local County that I work for) and he has contacted Accounts and tried to sort it. I've also filled in every form necessary for payment to happen, and still, nothing.

I've been promised payment (the accumulated payment) at the end of this month. Payslips arrive tomorrow at my workplace. I'm bracing myself to be disappointed again, and I would like to know what my options are. I feel like yelling and shouting but I know this won't go down too well, so is there any official line/legal line I can throw at them which will spur them into action? I know I'll definitely be speaking to payroll myself this time (instead of my Line Manager doing so) but I really want to arm myself just in case they tell me to wait another month.

I'm skint. Completely skint. I don't want to wait any more!

Union?

That's one thing I'll definitely mention, Harr, thanks.

Have you asked for an interim payment till your wages get sorted. As a former PL manager I know they can do this.

When I worked for the NHS, I moved jobs so continuity of service was maintained, but then had a sickness. When I returned, they had treated me as a 'new start' and therefore docked my pay.

They realised what they'd done, and suggested I could be paid the next month. Err..No.

They then suggested that they could write me a cheque, which would take 5 working days to clear. No.

Or that they could arrange a bank transfer, but that would take several days to clear. No.

I suggested (firmly) that I would be at the cashiers office at 2pm to collect the entire outstanding amount, in cash. They had it ready and waiting.

They can do it. They don't like to do it, but that's not the point.

They can do an advance/interim payment and you will have to sign to have it adjusted, its simple, go see payroll, armed with email from HR confirming salary, start date, grade and scale point.

Ask to speak to head of payrolll, also discuss a claim for any bank charges you have incurred (follow this up in writing)

Fantastic. Thanks everyone, this is exactly what I was hoping to get. I'm already quite angry and wound up about it so it'll be a massive relief if I am actually paid tomorrow....

But if not, then I know what I can say.

Thanks again.

You're a public servant if you work for a Local Authority - not a civil servant.

Ask for cash. It's illegal to withold wages
