Do any of you money whizzes know what kind of mortgage would be this kind of monthly payment? Just thinking of moving & interested to know what we could afford. That's the kind of monthly payment that is comfortable

If you use an online mortgage calculator like this one you can adjust the length of the mortgage, percentage interest rate and the total amount borrowed until you get the answer to your question. e.g. £200,000 borrowed over 25 years @ 5% would be repayments of £1182/month.

Alternatively, what kind of amount we'd get for a combined salary of 70k.

Ours is £1400 and £300k and we are on a fixed repayment. I have to say though even though we can comfortably afford it, it still feels like a lot when it leaves our account each month!

How much deposit have you got to put down?

Icelollycraving · 28/05/2012 12:01

Around 25k

If you're a first time buyer (?) you may find your choices are restricted a little to properties worth around £250,000 i.e. 90% LTV. Some lenders will let you borrow a higher percentage but the rates can get steep. £225,000 @5% shouldn't be too far away from your budget.

Not a first time buyer. Hoping to part exchange on new build who also advertise 95% mortgages. Think perhaps seeing an independant mortgage advisor is an idea worth thinking about.

Hi

My son used an IFA to find a mortgage and got a great fixed interest rate for five years. It's v reasuring to know what you'll be paying for a long time into the future. The IFA came up with various options with differering fees and for different lengths of time. He came round in the evening too.
