Car write-off. DH worried about MOT.

DH was involved in a car accident last week - the other driver admitted complete liability, so all OK on that front.

DH's insurance company has been amazing - very efficient. They've contacted him now to state that his car has been written off unfortunately, and that they will be sending him the cost of the car, pending some documents.

Here cometh the problem - DH admitted to me now that he forgot to MOT his car at the end of March, so while he's all taxed and insured, he doesn't have a current MOT. He's always been too laid back about sorting out these things, and now I fear that this lax-ness is going to bite him on the bum now.

Does anyone know what kind of documents the insurance companies ask for in situations where the car is written-off?

Thanks everyone.

Viva, thank you. DH had stopped on a busy main road, behind a row off other stationary cars, at some traffic lights. He could see the other vehicle in his rear view mirror coming and knew he was for it. Thing is, the other vehicle wasn't driving too close, he had plenty of time to stop. DH thinks that he was on his phone....Angry But the other driver denied it when DH asked him.

To top it all, even though he came home that day with a raging headache, he hasn't seen a Doctor (even though I tried and tried to persuade him) and now, he has definite symptoms of whiplash too.

of other stationary cars.

He can go see a dr on Monday. It's not unusual for whiplash to take a day or two for the symptoms to appear.

And it sounds like the other insurance will have to pay out, the lack of mot is irrelevant here.

I work in an insurance claims dept - is actually v common that people forget mots as you don't get a reminder. Where I work we take a percentage off your settlement figure for no mot

The only time I would say they wouldn't pay is hat it was something that made the car unroadworthy that caused the crash

Dont panic!!!!!

The mot (or lack of it) would affect the market value of the car which is why your settlement would be reduced
