Customers of a well known bank

Not sure if I'm allowed to say which one (three letters middle one 'B')

In the process of being taken over by another (I think Spanish) bank. Are you going to stay with them, or move to another bank? Just realised how boring this post is - sorry!

Hope the service improves then, cause for now they're shitz Angry not a customer and thank holy fuck for that.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 18/05/2012 00:00

ShitzConfused.

I wouldn't panic just yet. It can be a hassle to switch bank accounts. Wait until you get some information on terms and conditions and then run a few comparisons with other organisations.

TheSameButDifferent · 19/05/2012 01:06

crikey, didn't see this coming!

There is more than one bank with three letters middle one 'B'

TheSameButDifferent · 19/05/2012 01:36

R and S either side!

Gosh is this really bothering you at this time of night?

jubilucket · 19/05/2012 01:42

Am sticking with Nationwide. Hoping S*r don't go tits up for the sake of the rest of us but also having a slight 'I told you so' moment about sticking with good old fashioned mutuals!

youngermother1 · 19/05/2012 01:58

Note you are covered up to £85k by the govt if a bank goes bust, but some banks owned by the same parent are covered by 1 guarantee. for example santander, abbey, alliance and leicester and bradford and bingley have just 1 licence, so just £85k over all 4 institutions.
Note if santander goes under, the spanish govt do not have enough money to support it. would have to rely on the Germans.

Smile I was deadly bored DaisyMaisy!

Let's face it. If the money isn't there it isn't there. If push comes to shove these guarantees aren't worth the paper they're written on. It will be like endowment mortgages all over again. I know they weren't guaranteed in the small print but people thought they would get their mortgate paid and a nice lumps sum. A lot didn't.

blueshoes · 19/05/2012 20:28

I doubt the UK is going to go bust any time soon. They can always print all the £85Ks they need to.

gregssausageroll · 19/05/2012 21:00

I don't tink rbs are being taken over.

TheSameButDifferent · 19/05/2012 21:20

gregssausageroll · 20/05/2012 08:56

ah right. England and Wales only.

TreacleSoda · 21/05/2012 13:28

That article is really old and says that Santander will have taken over the entire RBS branch network in England and Wales by December 2011. I think you don't need to worry about it.

TheSameButDifferent · 21/05/2012 22:30

They are taking over all the branches in uk. I've already had my sort code changed.

OP posts:
gregssausageroll · 21/05/2012 22:38

Not in Scotland they aren't.

TheSameButDifferent · 21/05/2012 22:55

sorry, no not scotland. I phoned the bank and asked if there was a way of staying with rbs, and they said that the only branches to remain would be in scotland. Not like I have much to lose if it all goes tits up anyhow!

TreacleSoda · 22/05/2012 11:51

ah, ok, sorry, my mistake. I used to work for one of the banks you mention, and was wondering why I hadn't heard of this, as my friends who still work there tend to keep me up to date on whats going on when they are complaining about how miserable they are working there but its probably because I'm not in England or Wales.

I'd run a mile from Santander, their customer service is shocking.

Frontpaw · 22/05/2012 12:23

If they are going to renbrand, they may keep the existing products (at least ofr a while), otherwise they need to give you notice in writing (30 days) if they are going to transfer your account or make changes to ther account that will affect you.

They might shut down some or all of the branches and open an RBS 'desk' inside if they keep some of their products goind (ie loans or mortgages). I assume they are taking over the whole business?

If you have savings you may be in for a little windfall (you never know!).

TheSameButDifferent · 22/05/2012 19:41

I wish I had savings! They have written to me re the take-over. RBS staff assure me that they are all staying in their jobs and will continue with the good service. Hmmmm. Not that worried to be honest. Option of moving to another bank (in my original post) is not feasible unless I open one in Scotland.
