Deferred Student Loan - Effect of Gifted Shares

I'm a SAHM who has deferred their student loan because my only income is from a third party (i.e my husband supports me). I basically have access to £1000 per month from our joint account to pay for food/utilities/car/clothing for kids.

If I were to be gifted shares, what value would mean I'd have to start repaying the loan?

Shares aren't taxable income, they're an unrealised asset like a house or a gold brick. The taxable income derived from shares is in the form of dividends so, if the dividends take you past the trigger point, that could mean you had to start repaying the loan. If you sell the shares the profit may be liable for Capital Gains Tax but not Income Tax... and therefore would not be classed as income.
