Equifax - Anyone else had a rotten experience?

I have been trying to obtain a copy of my credit report and firstly applied to Experian which was straight-forward enough and I am just awaiting a PIN number so I can access online.

Equifax advertised that you can get an instant report for free so I signed up with them too and it's been nothing but a nightmare. The website is deliberately hard to work with and you are advised to call an 0844 number which is some foreign call centre where you can't even understand the call takers. They repeatedly ask you the same questions and all seem to be reading from a script.

It took me 4 calls and over 2 hours (at 5pm per minute) before I got given my reference number so I could log in. I was nearly in tears with frustration yesterday. I also had to scan in a copy of my passport and a utility bill which I regret doing now.

I am still not getting anywhere with being able to see my report and now I'm reading loads of negative things on the internet about this company. It seems cancelling may be difficult and as they have my card details I will probably start being charged.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with them. Also to warn / advise others to stay away. If I'd Googled them first I wouldn't had gone anywhere near them.

Not personally but DP had issues, Ive used Check My File for many years with no problem at all...and they provide reports from the 3 major agencies, Equifax, Experian and CallCredit (think thats the name of the 3rd one) ...

Thanks Mum2Fergus. The saga is still continuing with me.

TBH they will each have the same information about you anyway.

I would just stick with the credit report you already have and write to Equifax asking for a refund.
