just found out that the credit card (for DH's expenses - and which was also going to help u s get to the middle of next week) isn't going to be arriving until the weekend of the 24th. That means I've only got £15 to pay for groceries and DH's expenses until then.

b*gger what the flip am I going to do???

buy very very cheap - beans, potatoes, tinned toms fish fingers
and all value range

Can you overdraw a bit?

And what sort of expenses does he have?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 13/02/2006 18:44

tillykins - DH and DS1 hate fishfingers. I've already bought some value stuff which should last me to this weekend.

I don't have an overdraft facility on my account, and DH is already up to the limit on his.

He needs petrol for work.

If you've got online banking you can arrange an overdraft for your account online. If not ring the bank tomorrow they can sort it out on the spot.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 13/02/2006 18:52

jac - I've got a cardcash (or whatever tehy call it now) account with the Halifax - it doesn't have an overdraft facility - full stop .

Is your DH self employed or does he have an employer - if the latter, can your DH ask for a small crisis loan off his next wage?

tillykins · 13/02/2006 19:03

can he walk or use public transport?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 13/02/2006 19:04

he has an employer - but they're cr*p and he had a crisis loan 2 months ago.....

I'll try and call a friend tonight see if she can lend me £50 - that should keep us going - but I'm feeling sick to the stomach again.

no he needs his car for work - he's a TV Licence Officer - usually visiting between 40-60 different addresses a day - all over the county.

OP posts:
tillykins · 13/02/2006 19:09

surely he has a work petrol account for that then?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 13/02/2006 19:10

no he gets his expenses paid "once a month" - but never at the same time - and he claims the money back - rather than having an account to put it on [frown]

QoQ sorry but you have had all this advice before. You will manage just like all of us have to manage when things are tight.

Having said that can you take payment holidays on loans etc?

I think you need to sit back and look and work out why you keep finding yourself in these circumstances.

Can you really afford to have the internet? Do you need to work more? etc.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 13/02/2006 19:21

Flossam - once we get paid this month we'll be back on track. It's all because of a stuff up when I started work back in November - I didn't get paid only worked 1 1/2 weeks so not a lot. So they gave me cash, but it turned out when they gave the the cash they ALSO put my time sheet from November in with my December one - so I got paid more than I should have done (I didn't realise this as December should have been my first 'proper' pay packet - I'd done loads of training which we get paid for and as my wage slip never turned up (until the end of January ) I just assumed that's what it was. They never said anything to me about having been paid extra (or I'd have paid it back straight away!).

end of January approached and I found out that they had given me my November pay (again) in the December pay packet and would be taking it out in my January one - leaving us 'down' on the January pay packet.

Plus DH had to make a trip to Bristol for work, which of course he doesn't get the expenses back for until (hopefully) end of next week.

At least one thing can be said - we've paid all the bills this month (infact last 3 months) which is more than could be said for last August when NONE got paid.

Oh and NTL screwed up too (what's new hey) and didn't take out the first direct debit at the start of January - instead taking 2 this month.

Hence the reason we're about £50-60 (as opposed to £2000 a few months ago) down.

Flossam - the reason we got into this in the first place is because we took a 'gamble' starting our own business (which unfortunately coincided with a crash in the furniture market and several of the big companies going out of business - so not much chance of a new one taking off).

Just wish it was the 23rd tomorrow - and then we'd be all sorted.

OP posts:
Flossam · 13/02/2006 19:44

Well hope it gets sorted then. Maybe if you don't have any 'resources' such as CC for emergencies, you should try and have a pot for cash for times like these. I know things are hard financially for you, but a couple of pounds a time when things are less hard can make a big difference at times like now.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 13/02/2006 19:46

Flossam - we're going to once we start getting our 'proper' pay each month - this month will be the first time since we both started working where we'll both get our 'full' pay - ie DH basic +bonus and me normal salary.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

That feels better, once boys are in bed (about 20 minutes) I'm going to call a few friends and see if they can help. I've got two friends who may be able to lend me £30 (well one could probably lend me the £60 - but I don't want to ask one person for that much it just doesn't feel 'right' IKYWIM). Fingers crossed they'll be able to help.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 13/02/2006 19:48

oh and there was £25 we had to spend at the start of the month when the kitchen and bathroom lights packed up and we had to call an electrician out - the shower's broken too - but that'll have to wait until end of march now as we need a new microwave with more urgency (lets just hope the aging washing machine and fridge don't pack up soon too LOL(.
