How much is your buildings and contents insurance?

Does £350 sound about right for a 3 bed terrace? Have always had contents but never buildings as we've never owned before now. The quote started at £550 but magically came down when I objected Hmm It doesn't include home emergency cover or legal costs but does include accidental damage and covers a bike and personal possessions up to £5k.

Mine is about £290 - has accidental damage but not bike cover. Contents of 65k with personal possessions covered up to £1500 per item. Am with Axa. Am in a 4 bed detached house with £500,000 buildings cover.

£200 including accidental damage/legal costs. Can't remember who we're with I got it through quidco, so another £40 cashback

I have buildings and contents for £28.50/month (£342/year) with Lloyds TSB. Unlimited rebuilding costs, legal cover and about £50k contents with one or two named items. Yours sounds about right. I always hate insurance too until something drastic happens :)

Try one of the compare sites

Kaloobear · 25/04/2012 08:36

The rebuild included in ours is £190k - the house is worth £128k so I figured that was erring on the side of caution but really I have no idea how much it would cost to rebuild Confused

I tried comparison sites and they all came out at around £350-£500 but it's so hard to know whether those policies are 'complete' you know-I live in fear of one day actually needing the insurance and being refused a pay out.

Just reduced mine from £649 to £230 for a 5-bed with one of those comparison websites - and actually better cover, and a big name company too. Quite shocking the variation in prices! Kicking myself for not doing it before.

£180 with £60 cashback so £120 effective

TheCunningStunt · 25/04/2012 08:42

I lie..it was £160 with the cashback so £100

pinkhebe · 25/04/2012 12:03

If you look on martin lewis site it explains the re building bit, and this can really get your premiums down. It prob only costs £60k to re build
