I really really do not want to apply for a Crisis loan

....but I may have no option.

Waiting for Income Support to start (probably next Monday will be the first payment).

All bills gone out

Enough food for a few more days

£4.54 in the bank.
£3.00 in my purse.

ExDH is self employed and once again has no money to give me. He usually manages £200 a month but for the past few months this has been paid as £50 here and there. He put £50 in on Friday but £40 went straight away on petrol and electricity. Bought milk and bread over the weekend but have phone bill coming out on Friday and currently no idea how I will pay it.

Have ad-hoc work but am Carer for DS who is autistic so cannot take on a permanent job at the moment. Will get paid for the ad-hoc work end of April, Carers Allowance end of April too.

Am really irritated by exDH though as this is every month now and I am struggling. His rent gets paid on time because he borrows the money from his Mum. He won't consider any other work but I think he needs to.

And while I think about it, he is off on a jolly to Northumberland this weekend ....no idea how he is paying for this (unless it is already paid for) but I am going to be asking him.

I'm not starving, we will cope and I might be able to avoid a Crisis loan if my Mum can help us but if she can't I will have no choice. I have NEVER had to do this before and don't want to Sad.

Grr! If exDH was paying me a regular amount (rather than £50 here and there) it would be fine.

If exDH's mum has money to spare, perhaps she'd give something to her grandson? I'd have no qualms about asking, personally, and it would also have the effect of letting her know that he's wasting her money on jollies & not tipping up his fair share. Good luck

If all else fails cod it is not the worst thing in the world. Better than a payday loan. I have had a crisis loan when my ds was a baby and you have to repay it but slowly. It's called a crisis loan for a reason and if you need it that badly it is a crisis. It's nothing to be ashamed of to need help sometimes

queenofthepirates · 19/04/2012 19:03

Oh sweetie, take the crisis loan, take a fiver out and buy yourself something for you, sounds like you really need it just now.

Thank you all so much for your input as I really appreciate it.

I phoned for a Crisis loan and then found that the IS was going to be paid the next day. What a relief.

ExH also came up with £150 the following day too.

And I found £20 worth of clubcard vouchers so treated myself to some Barbara Daly make up which I quite like and was buy 2 items and get the 3rd free Smile feeling much better apart from stinking cold!

aw that's really good news, glad you got something to cheer yourself up too x

JuliaScurr · 20/04/2012 12:41

I too have hideous cold. Taking 'Day & Night Nurse' - quite effective

Grrrr · 22/04/2012 10:07

Am I the only miserable pessimistic one thinking that make-up to cheer me up is a shortsighted purchasing decision when you are at the mercy of exDh's random cash-flow issues.

Seriously, I would be looking to get together £40-£50 rainy day fund if this was me so purchasing £20 of store cupboard items instead of make-up plus basic paracetomol instead of "Day & Night Nurse" which is overhyped and expensive for what it is.

Please build yourself a small emergency fund as worrying about money each month will, in the long term, age you more than make-up can hide.

However, its good to hear that the current financial crisis has eased.

JuliaScurr · 22/04/2012 12:04

Paracetemol doesn't stop sneezing, coughing, snot production though. Olbas Oil also good
