What credit card should I get? [disclaimer - boring]

I've realised the time has come to get a credit card, purely for the insurance they offer.

I will pay off every month so don't care what the rate is and have no balance to transfer, so I have no proper basis to make my decision on.

So what does the best free gifts/cashback?

I know I said it was boring but I was hoping someone would reply.

The more frivolous the free gifts the better. Smile

You can check out who is offering the best cashback on the moneysupermarket and other comparison sites here. Then there are people like M&S, Sainsbury (Nectar) and Tesco offering points on spending... those can be good if you shop there. Airline cards are another option. Depends what you want, really.

It really depends whether you want cash back, airmiles, or vouchers for a particular shop. If you do most of your weekly shop in one store you maybe better having that stores card because you tend to get more cash back vouchers that way. I have the card of the store I shop in most and get vouchers for that store, I put all my shopping on the card and pay it off every month. It costs me nothing and I do get a miniscule amount of interest in the bank.
Again if you travel a lot a card that accumulates airmiles could be good for you.
Sorry no simple answer that suits everyone you need to work out what you want from a card.

Santander 123 gives you cash back on petrol, depart, emt store and supermarket spending. Ideal if you are paying off balance each month!

I like my john Lewis card cos you get points which turn into vouchers every 3 months. But Tesco is good if you shop there. No problem with paying for everything on a credit card as long as u don't think of it as separate to your bank account ie as extra money.

I've had a look on the comparison site and think it's going to have to be cashback. I'm not sure there's anywhere offering vouchers where I do enough shopping at to make it worthwhile. I'm going to have another look before making a final decision, as the voucher rates seem to be higher than cashback, but pretty certain cashback is the way to go.
