What is for? Data? Voicecalls?

LadySybilDeChocolate · 11/04/2012 23:26

You need to check whether this is a data charge. If it's logged into the internet, you'll get charged for it whether you use it or not. Call the phone company.

i dont understand how you got a 1k bill for 2 days

D0oinMeCleanin · 11/04/2012 23:29

Some phones (like mine) have 'always on' data that you must remember to switch off before you travel.

They constantly access the web, without you doing anything to update the time and weather. Mine uses inordinate amounts of data and I mainly use wifi.

If it's that it could easily be 1k over two days. The phone company might be understanding if you plead ignorance, but I doubt it as you will have been connecting via a third party operator and yoour carrier will have to pay a fee to them (hence why using a phone abroad is so expensive)

Sorry OP Sad

It was data charges. I used for the first two days then my friend who used to work for a phone company said to turn it off. So did for the rest of the holiday. Other companies cap at a certain amount. I know it's all my fault but it's not exactly customer care Sad

Call them and beg. If they tell you to sod off, go and see the lovely people at the CAB.

Ofcom are the regulators of phone companies. It costs a phone just to be investigated by Ofcom, even if they find in their favour, so you might have some luck if you threaten to report them to Ofcom. I guess it would depend what would cost them more/how likely Ofcom are to find in their favour.

It will be in your small print, so it's doubtful that you have a leg to stand on, but it's worth trying.

Good luck OP.

This article from the Guardian seems to suggest that you ought to have received a notification that you had reached 80% of a 50? cap, unless you had agreed to different data roaming terms. Worth investigating, perhaps?

Well I rang up and the guy on the phone said 'wow that's a big bill lets see what I can do' and it's been slashed to £110.....chuffed :-)
