Tax Credit award letters 2012/13 'misleading'

HMRC letter is 'misleading'

In a nutshell, the letter from HMRC says that the income thresholds have come down to around £26,000 for a family with one child, £32,200 for a family with 2 children. What is not made totally clear in the letter is that there are exceptions for families with more than 2 children, paying for childcare and if there is disability involved. In these cases it could mean that, if your income is as high as £50,000 or £60,000, you may still qualify

In short,if you're not sure if you qualify or not, make your claim anyway. The HMRC Tax Credits Calculator will be updated from April 6th.

The estimate is 50 pound per week
However it is only an estimate
I was completely surprised , I thought we would qualify for nothing

Thanks Cognito. I'm surprised that we should still be able to claim as DS gets HRC/LRM DLA and I'm on ESA (cb) as well as an income protection policy. Has made my day but I won't count my chickens!

This is really useful information.

Bump

@Ben10NeverAgain... maybe you could report back if the estimate was accurate or not? There's a lot of uncertainty over things like disability benefits and tax credits at the moment and it would be good to know if these calculators are giving out good information.

I earn around £35k, work full-time and I am a single parent with 2 children. My childcare costs vary but are around £160 per week. Nice man at tax credits stressed that he could only give me an estimate (and was actually not supposed to) but I was pretty insistent and he told me I should get around £177 per week, which matches the turn2us website.

Will do Cogito.
