Is this wishful thinking?

I have two accounts with the same building society. On Jan 31st at about 7:30pm I tried to change some money between the two because I knew there were direct debits to come out the following day. Although the site seemed to be working fine it wouldn't go to the final "confirm" page so I could not transfer the money.

I emailed them to let them know of the problem but of course the next morning 4 direct debits returned which will cost me £100 in charges. (More than the dds)

I have written to the bank to ask them to waive the fees. What do you think are my chances?

Quite good actually. Esp if you are very, very insistent.

Thats what I was hoping!

I handed the letter in to the branch yesterday. Apparently they pass it on somewhere else?

How long should it take for me to hear from them?

I have the tracking no. of the email I sent them regarding the fault with the site

Depends on the bank I suppose. I had a problem last year when the person in the bank put theh moey in the wrong account and I ended up with a whole lot of charges. The girl just removed the charge straight away.

I'm sure they've done this more than once for me, I think. One time I had gone in and tried to do something when they told me I had money coming off, so because I was in the bank the girl just took off the charges for me.

ive had charges taken off a few times the last 1 was when i was in hospital with dd and couldnt get to the bank to put money in. they even sent her a wee card

I'm shocked that they even try to charge you that. dh and I are crap at keeping tabs of our money and we regularly go over our od limit - usually cos of direct debits and they don;t charge us £100. Tell them you'll take your business elsewhere. It's not like it's interest free. fees of £100 is bang out of order - tell them!

Dustanyone · 03/02/2006 07:27

Oh, I shall have something to say if they refuse to cancel the charges. The £100 is 4 lots of £25 iyswim. It's nice to hear other peoples stories though, gives me a bit of ammunition!

I'm sure they will remove the charges with no problems, especially if there was money in your other account. I've never paid any bank / CC charges - dh is notorious for forgetting to pay his CC on time - but when asked they always remove them (we've usually paid one day late or something).
