WTF Tax?!

I've received a letter today for tax year 09/10

"I have now made the necessary amendments to the Tax Calculation previously issued for the year shown above.

My revised calculation is shown on the enclosed sheet.

This calculation includes an underpayment for an earlier year.

The reason for the underpayment further information has been received"

Then the sheet enclosed makes no sense as it says my income was £13,611 and total tax paid £1,277.60 but according to my P60's/P45's my income was £10,605.29 and tax paid £2,814.08, hence why I got a £1,408.66 rebate for that year!!!

Now they want £2,162.48 back but I don't understand it. Obviously I'll ring them on Monday, but any one shed any light?!

They believe you have earned more than you have declared. That's either in the form of additional income outside of your main employment or anything that could be considered a perk. If you've got your P60/P45, you should be able to set matters straight.
