Mortgage application and child maintenance

Hi,

I'm just about to apply for a new mortgage and have what is probably a stupid question but I cant find the definitive answer.

I pay child maintenance each week to my ex via standing order which we have agreed on. It wasnt setup via the CSA and naturally isnt enforced by a court order etc.

I need to apply for my mortgage any day now as and know that on the application there is bound to be a question regarding money 'outgoings'. Although these payments are considered as a debt do I have to show this on the application? I dont want to get into any difficulties with the lender but if I didnt include this is there any way for them to find out and ruin my chances of obtaining the mortgage.

The people at work just say 'dont tell them as its non traceable through the courts'. I'm sure many people probably do this but should I and would I risk being found out?

Thanks for any help.

I'm a mortgage underwriter and you should definitely declare this....if you don't and they find out they will decline your application and then share the info with any lenders you subsequently apply to. It's mortgage fraud and in theory you could be prosecuted.
