Advice on private sale needed

Have been renting my parent's house and now have the opportunity to buy it from them.We have had a valuation done, and are organising a survey. Apart from not having an estate agent to pay, what else needs to be done in a private sale?

make sure you use a solicitor - they'll sort everything out for you and tell you what you need to do. We sold our house privately and we just made sure both parties had a solicitor acting for them incase any problems cropped up.

We were actually quite sneaky - had it on the market with an estate agent, but then a the friend of someone that lived near us (who we got on well with) got wind of the fact that we were selling - and he wanted to buy it. The estate agent had been complete pants - and even if we didn't have the board up this guy would probably have found out we were selling from his friend anyhow. So we ditched the estate agent and sold it to him/

Nothing, you just need a solicitor. We are also in the process of buying my parents house actually! We are both using the same solicitor too which makes things easy!

Thanks for the info. Glad we can use the same solicitors for them and us as they are travelling, pair of old hippies .

IT was good - because it meant we were able to accept slightly less than we otherwise would have been able to - as we didn't have to take into account estate agents fees.

We just told them we were taking it off the market .

The guy that bought it is lovely. He turned up on our doorstep the other day (we moved here Sep 2004!) with some letters. Apologising that he'd opened them but he was concerned that it was perhaps people chasing money - turns out it was NTL sending DH's ENTIRE direct debit details to our OLD address!!! Thankgoodness he's a decent bloke - apparently he rang them up and gave them a bollocking too - and they admitted "oh yes we do have their new adress" - no kidding - they've been sending us bills here for over 1 year!

we sold our house privately. Once you have agreed a price just get a solicitor and they tell you what to do!

In fact not sure what estate agents do.... The only bit that nearly went wrong/caused the most stress was the bit where an estate agent was involved! He had sold the house of the people who were buying ours

don't forget to insure it from the day you exchange
