Possible fraud - need advice

We've been in our house for nearly 7 years. We got a letter addressed to the previous owners at the weekend. Normally I ignore them as its junk mail, but this one was from Very so I opened it. It says that the previous owner of our house (or more likely someone pretending to be him) tried to get credit. It was refused because he is not listed on the electoral roll for the address. I am worried that someone is trying to get credit fraudently and it may result in our address being credit blacklisted. Any advice about what we should do?

It's the person and the address, not just the address, which is on the credit file. What you could do is send off for a report, it's £2 or something like this. Don't just go to one though as there's 3 or 4. If anything shows up on the credit report then you need to contact the company in question so that it's removed from your file. You usually just have to send a letter and proof of your identity. If someone has been using your name to obtain goods then it's the same process, I'd contact the police also though.

Hi there

It is the person who has the entry registered against them not the property as such. You can look at credit expert to credit check and cancel within 30days but this will not show up any credit report for the previous occupants, only yourself.

You cant access information on the previous occupants and the company will not give you any information due to data protection - maybe the police is a good idea
