we're on the cusp of getting our first mortgage but were wondering about credit checks.
neither of us have any bad history with credit.
dp currently has credit card with a limit of around £9k on it

when mortgage companies do checks etc etc does the fact that he has a big credit limit look good (ie, he is trustworthy) or will it look bad (we may start using it and getting into debt)?

we've never used it all, and anything on his credit card tends to get paid in full at the end of the month (only ever a couple of hundred max)

I think it should make it look good. A few years back, we had a nightmare getting a contract mobile because we had no debts or credit cards, so we had no credit rating in existence. After that we got cards just for the sake of it, but they got taken away because we didn't use them!!

excellent thanks! he spoke to first direct today (who his accounts are with) and the woman didn't really seem to know! lol
she did say that if we had a mortgage with them then they may suggest cutting the limit, just to reduce risk to them though!
