How do I stop my (ex) partner obtaining credit at my address?

Yet again my partner has run up a lot of debt. Having already bailed him out previously, Im in no mood to do it again, so making my plans to separate from him. Currently living in rented property while Ive been saving mortgage deposit...not going to let him muck this up for my DS and I!! Ive emailed local council to have his name removed from council tax, and made enquiry as to how to remove him from voters role. Letters keep appearing (now sunk as low as Wonga and PayDay Loans!)... how else can I protect my financial future?

can you get to your local CAB?

good luck. sounds like you're well rid.

You can lodge a Notice of Disassociation with all the credit reference agencies, to officially sever all financial ties.

Costs you though I'm afraid.

do you know his new address?

whomovedmychocolate · 28/01/2012 21:51

It doesn't cost anything - here's experians: www.uk.experian.com/contactforms/consumer_onlinedisassociation.html you need to google to find the Equifax one.

Provide the companies concerned (Wonga, PayDay Loans etc.) with his new address? At least they will then stop using your address for him. The Notice Of Disassociation sounds good also - although I have no experience of it. If he applied for more credit at the OP's address would it flag up that he no longer lived there RambleOn?

I'm also not sure whether it is still the case that addresses get "blacklisted", or whether it's purely the individual. The last thing you'd want is to apply for a mortgage & be refused because an ex's debts are showing up.

Hope you get it sorted out soon Smile.

We bought a house recently from someone with a lot of debts. We had bailiffs turn up, all sorts. But our credit record is squeaky clean. However if he NAMES you as his reference or partner, that can get you unfortunately.
