my friend got a letter telling her that shed been over paid (about £500) and that it was no way ehr fault and they would not be reclaiming it back!

I was there when she opened it and be both nearly died of shock (and read about 10 times, but thats what it said!)

needless to say she kept letter very carefulyl as a few months letter was told she was over paid etc, but because of that letter the really arnt making her repay it. (some lady in CAB could not belive it either!)

i have. they wrote off the 'debt' and we got £100 of compensation. our case was very clear cut w/lots of written proof the mistake was theirs. our mp was involved

hi praps i can get advice off this thread, ive had my child tax reduced by 115 a month for 4 months because of an overpayment in year 2003/2004!im livid and have rung them and asked why they didnt offer me a payment book and smaller amounts to payback, they said that il get a call within 7days to explain the overpayment. i told them that this money was to help with your kids and that my boys would suffer, i didnt know whether to contact my MP also

I've had my wftc reduced and my ctc has stopped until April because they overpaid me at the beginning - we have £200 coming in instead of £600. I daren't ring them because they will undoubtedly screw it up totally and leave us with nothing, I guess they figure that if they realise the overpayment before the end of the year then they can make an adustment instead of overpaying and trying to get the money back off us - doesn't help me though

it pisses me off bubblerock, and poor you losing more than me, there shouldnt be any overpayments. when ive had changes to wages etc ive ALWAYS let them know asap.incase its affected my payments. i think its really really wrong that the parents are penalised and have to go through the worry of being cash strapped. the only comfort is, is that obviously im not the only one and come april i will like im rich when the money goes up again!

bubblerock · 17/01/2006 23:09

Roll on April!

Didnt realise you could appeal - they actually reduced my payments by over £200 per month it was their error I always sent in correct details by they were basing their figures on my maternity leave year - I now get less then I did before I dd!!!!

7777777 · 18/01/2006 16:01

i think me waiting for 7 days for a phone call is probly part of the appeal process, crap init. i see on the news today tax credits were in the headline about multi million pounds worth of fraud!prob why theyve reduced our money

Hi all I hope this thread is still active?

We have just had a 4K over payment through due to child disability rate dropping.

I did ring and tell them the date the disability element level is was dropping but got told to call back on or after that date.

Since then I never called back as my father was diagnosed with cancer and had to care for him along with arranging my wedding last minute so he could walk me down the isle (unfortunately he never made my wedding date, he passed 2 weeks prior)

The last thing on my mind was to call back in with all this going on

So my question is, is it worth appealing on these grounds or am I just wasting my time

Thanks all in advanced x
