I work 30 hours a week in a school & on a low wage, i also receive Child Maintenance from the CSA from 1 parent and a weekly amount from another. Can anyone tell me if when applying for housing benefit do they take the child maintenance into account when accessing your claim. Many thanks

They don't at the moment (wehey!) but it's looking possible that they will when they change the benefits over to the Universal Credit. Sad

Thank you for that, do you know when they are changing to Universal Credit??

Not yet, they are still bashing out the details.

Thank you, I was getting stressed that they would use that money to calculate what i would be intitled to. Its what i use to get us through the month after all bill have been paid

Same here. The last time I claimed HB was 9 years ago, they did use it in the calculations then so I was expecting them to use it this time. I was happy when they didn't. They don't use DLA either. Smile

Whats really frustrating is that ive been working for 2 years and have never claimed it. I was told that if i worked i wouldnt be entitled to it. I know i shouldve checked before hand, but the whole system can be really intimidating. I have asked for it to be back dated but i very much doubt that it will

They do backdate but it rarely happens, you're more likely to get it backdated if a member of staff at the council told you that though. At least you will have it now. It felt like such a relief when they started paying mine, I was struggling before but getting on with it.

Im pretty sure my rent officer was one of them that told me that when i started work, but how do i prove that she did?? At least in the New Year my pockets will be more heavier than lighter!!

There's no harm in telling them that. Best of luck Smile
