Hi we are first time buyers and new to all this. Hubby is self employed. We have a 50% deposit. We need a mortgage for 250,000. Is this possible in the current crisis? What would hubby to need to show in the way of documents, wages etc? Can anyone recommend a good lender?

Thanks x

Anything's possible and a 50% deposit will help a lot. I'd recommend finding an independent mortgage broker to help you find a suitable lender. Some are more orientated towards the self-employed than others. And yes, you'll need to prove level of income.

I have always needed 3 years worth of accountant generated accounts to support the income I claim I have. We borrowed a bit more than this from the Co-op we were slightly over their income multiplier (2.75 times joint income), but as we had banked with them for 10 years they were happy. We tried an independent broker, but actually the Co-op mortgage was cheaper and not avaliable thorough a broker.
I would use a no fee no obligation broker and also do my own research.
