Sorry a rather boring subject but has anyone got insurance/extended warranty for all their white goods as one package. If so who did you go with and how much do you pay a month.

Found one for £7.99 a month which covers the lot but i'm worried that might be a bit too good to be true and I'll end up with a crap workman coming out to fix my appliances.

Do they break down often?

It tends not to be worth it for most appliances - I definitely wouldn't buy it for those appliances that don't have moving parts.

A lot of 'extra cover' you get with the extended insurance/warranty will in fact be already covered by your home contents insurance so it's worth checking exactly what you will be paying for.

In general I think they tend not to be worth it - you'd be better off sticking your £7.99 in a piggy bank and using that to buy a new appliance if one of yours breaks!

We have cover through British Gas for certain named appliances, had it for years, can't remember the cost but very reasonable, and have used it loads of times when things have broken down When the washing machine decided to die they gave us £250 towards a new one as well.

Yes Eldonave we haven't had much luck in the last 3 years. This xmas it's been the washing machine, just paid £105 to fix. Last Xmas it was the dishwasher which non fixable so had to fork out for a new one, and the year before it was the fridge freezer which cost us nearly £200 to fix.

We though the same as you Dee but it actually doesn't work out that way as you never save the £7.99 a month.

Mind you now most of my white good have broken down and been fixed/replaced I prob won't have any more problems for years and end up paying insurance for nothing! Oh the dilemma Confused

Thanks for your thoughts :)

How old were the ones that broke?

fragglerocker · 14/12/2011 21:18

We bought our fridge, cooker and washer from currys and took out the insurance for all of them at time of purchase. We pay £1.50 a month per appliance. We have claimed on the washer one a few times and the fridge one once, never on the cooker. For what we pay it's worth having and we have needed it more than we thought. I wouldn't be without it!

Eldonave we brought all our appliances at the same time in 2008. I think we have just been a bit unlucky really!
