What is a 'financial reference'?

Have applied for a tenancy with a local landlord and he has requested a 'financial reference'?

We can provide copy of pay slips and a bank statement showing our salaries paid in, or do I need something more? Xmas Hmm

Sounds like the landlord wants some reassurance that you can pay the rent. Maybe ask him exactly what he means? Wouldn't feel comfortable personally sharing all my financial details with someone if I didn't have to.

Usually an assurance that you are employed & earning regularly.

A letter from your boss comfirming you are employed as Chief PaperClip Purveyor or something with a salary of £xxxxx per month should do it.

Some ask for a letter from the bank or copy of last statement.

Check & see what is his preference, it's quite a usual practice.

We have been renting for the past year, and on that application went through all checks with employers etc. and credit checks. This landlord is a local 'Estate owner' who rents out hundreds many cottages on his estate, we have lived in 'his' village for a year and he has only asked for a financial reference and a reference from our current landlord. Xmas Grin

I have asked the agents who are managing our own property (in different part of the country) to also confirm we own a property.

I have tred to contact him this morning without success - don't particularly want to give him a copy of our bank statement too much christmas spending not that we have any financial problems.
