Bloody Tax Credits

jambothesnowman · 19/12/2005 10:07

We appealed our overpayment to Tax credits which has been bloody refused.

We kept them up to date of our change in circumstances i.e salary changes and we now owe them £800.

I tried to argue the case as they are the ones that do the payments but we all suffer.

Does anyone really benefit from tax credits.
We are a working family with 4 kids under 4 and this aint benefitting us at all. We cant afford childcare so hubby works 8.15-4.45 and me 5-10 mon-fri for what!!!!!!

not just you. We had an appeal denied even though when i initially called they admitted we had phoned with changes etc. Unfortunately there is no one who audits them and all appeals are dealt with internally..pain in the bum if you ask me..lol

jambo they're hopeless. we've been overpaid by £2500 and they promised me the overpayments would stop. but then got another letter saying they will still be overpaying us for another 6 months.

hate phoning them, no good whatsoever...........

have you been to CAB about this?

aragon · 20/12/2005 17:09

Same with us - overpaid by £3000 apparently. God alone knows how we'll repay it.

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 20/12/2005 17:33

Oh Jambo hun I just saw this. I'm still having naf all luck either. Called them again today and the lady changed her tone slightly when I mentioned "oh well I will have to have a natter with my MP" U should try that and if you actually don't have any joy then go ahead and contact them. Remember your MP wants your vote and they will sort it.

Hope we both have a better time with them soon

My sister has had no payments for weeks, they said to her too that a giro had been sent.

Now they are sayig the payments are slipping through so will need to wait till 13th jan.

What are folks meant to do?

She was looking for emergency payment which you can get but they say since she works for them she needs to wait like it makes a difference who she works for she still needs the money

Please go and see your local CAB. They are running a social policy issue on this matter - this means that they are gathering as much evidence as possible about tax credit overpayments and the hardship they are causing with a view to bringing pressure to bear to stop it. The Inland Revenue's own guidelines state that, if an overpayment is as a result of the IR's own error, they should not seek to recover it. Problem is that they are ignoring their own guidelines but, individually, there is not much anyone can do about it. If you tell CAB, they may be able to negotiate with IR on your behalf and, at the very least, can add your experience to their evidence to tackle the government about it.

I hate them

FestiveFrex · 22/12/2005 16:45

Couldn't sleep so thought I'd dispense a few pearls of wisdom on here instead . Just have to hope that I was sufficiently awake not to type complete gibberish......

jambothesnowman · 23/12/2005 08:53

merrymegan fingers crossed they can sort something out pretty soon, as you say your mum cant pay for ever.

It doesnt give much encouragement to work though does it if you are a working family!!!! nothing against single parents as they work damn hard and deserve every penny they get but i feel it benefits in somehtings to be single iykwim.

PLease no-one take offence to my statement not getting at anyone other than our bloody shite government

I totally understand jambo. I am a single mum and I totally agree. This is why if I have to give up work I will have to go back on benefits which I was on for about 3 month 2 years ago and couldn't stand it, but after this it may be my only option.

I will be in your situation after xmas which they have already told me I will have been over payed so thats going to be fun.

are u going to speak to your mp? you can do it over the phone.

jambothesnowman · 23/12/2005 12:56

deffo will be contacting our MP soon.
