Does anybody know how car allowance is taxed?

Does it go onto your basic pay and taxed from that?

Does that makes sense

I've looked on the inland revenue site but I cant find anything on car allowance only company cars.

Any help appreciated

If you mean you receive cash instead of a company car then think it gets taxed as part of your earnings.

You just get taxed on it as if it were extra pay. No additional liabilities, just seen as a perk

for mileage allowance trythis

If it an amount your employer pays you not related to mileage it used to be called the Fixed profit car Scheme and search on hmrc.gov.uk brings up lots of hits.

Otherwise it just gets added to your gross salary and attracts tax and NI in the normal way. HTH
