Just when we thought we were getting sorted - HSBC are being complete arses and despite saying they wouldn't take the loan payment out of DH's account - have done so today - leaving us £400 over our official overdraft limit - and the mortgage lender wants our (revised - more than the 'normal' payment due to our agreement to pay missing payments in stages) full payment by next Friday - or they'lll demand the money we owe in full - which would mean the start of repossession .

We've got tax credits, my organ pay and child benefit coming in during the next few days - but that's only about 2/3 of the amount we need to find - and if we use all of that we'll have nothing left to pay for the other bils and food (never mind Christmas).

I've got stuff I can sell (Piano - probably get £300ish for that, table football table, rowing machine etc etc) but I don't know if I'd be able to sell them by next Friday.

Try ebay. Sorry no other advice, you know our history! TBH, I would have already sold the big items by now.

deegingemerrilyonward · 30/11/2005 14:44

Silly question, but bank will not relent and honor mortgage payment? have you spoken to them

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 14:45

Flossam - I've alrady tried ebay for them (the table and rowing machine- and neither sold - twice ) and a whole load of other stuff too - cost me a fortune in fees

  • the piano I haven't tried to sell yet as I do sort of need it for my music stuff - if I can't get across to church to practice because of the children I practice at home - and often have people from church pop over to practice stuff for various servicesl.

Why is it money issues always raise their ugly
head around Christmas. Grrr.

We have just had £2,500 STOLEN FROM OUR CURRENT ACCOUNT!!! Because it's not from a CC it's "in dispute" and will take 4-6 weeks to reclaim the money!!!! The only "upside" is that the twat who nicked the money paid TWO MAGISTRATES FINES using the card details. Tonker. But it's likely it is not the person who cloned the card in the first place.

And my sister has just been told her company has been put into liquidation and the MD made bankrupt so the chances of her getting her last months money is ziltch.

If you put your stuff on Ebay PDQ for a five day listing, you never know - you might get your hands on some money asap...

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 14:47

no the bank won't - despite having been to CAB and drawing up a detailed financial statement apparently (according to the bank) we

"aren't in financial difficulties we're just overspending"

needless to say that as soon as we're able we'll be changing banks

OP posts:
throckenholt · 30/11/2005 14:47

contact the bank asap and either get them to retract the loan payment or increase your overdraft to cover the mortgage payment.

Make sure they are aware it is their mistake that had got you in this particular situation.

madmarchhare · 30/11/2005 14:49

Dito throckenholt.

deegingemerrilyonward · 30/11/2005 14:52

OK, so there is always a solution, we just haven't htought of it yet!

Right need to speak to mortgage lender asap, and explainw hat has happened, they would rather have normal payment (which I assume you can pay) rather than nothing, and re set repayment to start next month. Explain to children Christmas pressies will prob arrive in the summer

Sorry but you need to talk to them asap, or they will repossess. DH used to do this when he was a bank clerk, and has told me that he would't consider not doing it.

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 14:59

merrily DH talked to the mortgage provider this morning - and they want the full amount we're due this (well beginning of december) month full stop

Going to go to Morrisons straight after I've picked DS1 up from school and put an ad on the board for the piano, and a few other bits.

OP posts:
madmarchhare · 30/11/2005 15:10

What about the bank?, presuming they are different to the lender. What about changing lender?

madmarchhare · 30/11/2005 15:11

I mean about the loan when I refer to the bank.

expatinscotland · 30/11/2005 15:22

Got any credit cards? Can you get a loan or overdraft extension (temporarily)?

Damn, QofQ. If I win Lotto tonight, I'll give you, not loan you, the money.

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 17:53

Sorry had to go out and get DS1 from school and pop to Morrisons. Madmarch - our lender is also the bank - for both loan and mortgage .

Expat - we've got a credit card - but it's already up to it's limit. Can't get a loan - as our credit rating has slunped and the bank are refusing another overdraft extension because of our "overspending".

When I was in Morrisons I put up an ad for a few bits and pieces - don't know if they'll sell, and if they do whether it'll be in time for next Friday. Just spoken to DH on the phone and he seems to think it very likely it'll end up being repossessed - so I'm on the hunt for 2 bedroom flats for rent in Wellingborough

deegingemerrilyonward · 30/11/2005 18:00

Looking on the dark side, if you are repossed, will you have enough money left over from sale of house, after mortgage paid off to pay off all debts? If so, this could be the clean slate you need.

Avalon · 30/11/2005 18:01

HRHQoQ - does the church you attend have a fund for parishioners in need?
Perhaps you could be lent/given some money to tide you over.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/11/2005 18:01

No chance of remortgaging, anywhere?

Or of trying to sell the house yourself? I guess it wouldn't happen fast enough ... I just know repossessions tend to end up selling for less than normal sales ...

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 18:05

merrily - no most probably not - we only moved here just over 1yr ago - and although we did have a deposit it wasn't particularly huge.

Avalon - no they don't sadly

NQC - we tried that a few months back when things started to slide - no-one wanted to know - except for some of those particularly dodgy places that charge extortionate levels of interest

OP posts:
misdee · 30/11/2005 18:05

sell the house, dont let them repossess, and look for something to rent, you could ned up better off than if you let them repossess.

when we got to the point when we were struggling to afford the mortage, we sold our flat (struggled on like you did for six months, feeding family of 3 on 25 per week, cut right back, sold loads of stuff). with the equality we cleared pretty much all out debts.

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 18:07

misdee - the market round is really slow - there's been 3 houses on this street on the market for about 2 months on this street - really nice places very similar to ours - and the amount that's being asked for them (if we got the same) wouldn't be enough to clear.

Just been looking for flats/2 bedroom houses round here - none seem to want children !

chicagomum · 30/11/2005 18:13

QofQ so sorry to hear things are not improving (or tbh getting worse) no words of wisdom other than go to the CAB. Both my mother and my MIL work there and I think they probably will be the most knowledgable people to help you.

iota · 30/11/2005 18:31

QofQ -- I know nothing about them apart from the ads, but if you need to sell stuff in a hurry is CashConverters a possibility, or do they offer you ridiculously low prices?

foundintranslation · 30/11/2005 18:50

oh bum qoq
wonder if maybe there's someone you can get to speak to hsbc with you/on your behalf, point out it was their mistake, (threaten to) embarrass them? someone from cab maybe?

NutcrackingXmas · 30/11/2005 18:55

I would definatly sell the house if you can, even if it means you only just break even.

Don't use cash converters, they will offer you peanuts.

HRHQoQ · 30/11/2005 20:26

I'll have a chat with DH when he gets back - probably won't make a solid decision on whether to sell it until middle of next week - as there is still a small chance we'll get the money together to pay them - apparently there's some money in his account still which will be "snapped up" tomorrow for other bills - so at least most of them will be payed - then with Tax Credits, Child Benefit and Organ pay, plus (hopefully) selling some of the stuff it should (I hope) cover the amount we need to pay them.

I'm still expecting a cheque from my new work for around £150 (no-one told me about the time sheets so didn't get paid yesterday - but the owner will write me a cheque) and I've got a funeral to play for next week too (well I havent' decided whether I'll do it or not - may have training at work - which I also get paid for) - then both of us get paid before Christmas this month....

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 30/11/2005 20:29

I'm w/nutcracker, avoid Cash Converters if you can. They told me flat out I'd get more on Ebay. They were correct in that.
