If you once had a direct debit set up to pay something but it no longer appears on your account yet you still owe the company money, can they still just take what they want from your account??

Also can Barclaycard do this if you have a Barclays account and owe them and they see you have money in your account?

Zephyrcat-That is unbelieveable. These banks encorage you to take out loans etc and as soon as you have a change in circumstances as we did they offer no help at all.
They would not pay back the money they took from my account.I rang and said it was child benefit and needed for my children's nappies etc,but they were'nt interested. They said even if they were to give us the money back it would take up to 10 days as it was a different department.

Will you have to wait long for the money to be returned?

4 days they reckon - I'm just worried that they don't do it.

Zephyrcat-I would have thought if they said they would refund it then they should.

It is so irresponsible to do this to people.Don't they consider people have to pay rent, eat etc.

We did'nt change banks straight away after it happened and after I had discussed with them to arrange smaller payments they still went ahea the next month and took the higher amount again. So we changed banks pretty sharpish after that.
