My bank is sacking me!!

I don't know why?!

Received a notice today - in 2 months they will close my account.

It says "having reviewed matters carefully, the bank no longer wishes to provide you with banking facilities" No further explanation! I'm stunned.

I've had one account for 13 years since I was a student. I had a student loan, graduate loan and student overdraft - all diligently paid off, years ago. Good income. It's now mine and DH's main joint account - both salaries go in - DDs and SOs go out to pay bills. Recently opened a savings account with them - that's also to be closed!

It has been in credit for YEARS (since student days were over) - I pay £7 per month for my account. No debt with them.

Been on mat leave this year so salary dropped - would this be why?

I find it mind boggling that a bank could drop you for not putting enough money in if you in credit. Can you imagine if you got to the doorof Sainsbury's and they said 'Sorry Ma'am but you're not welcome here anymore, we noticed you were only spending £50 a week with us so it's not really worth us keeping you as a customer'?!

Why don't you just close it if you only pay in £7? I assume you have another everyday account so why do you need another?

MorallyBankrupt · 18/06/2011 12:18

She pays £7 to have the account.... she pays all her wages in!

Oh ok I thought it was just £7 to keep it open!

Contacting DH at home would have been acceptable. He doesn't get mail from the business address as the business was closed a few years ago. The premises fell vacant then.

I've no reason to think DH has had letters about this and I don't know about them. I bring in the mail and would have noticed an identical envelope to mine for the current situation at least. Afterall, it's a bank error, phonecall and discussion and (hopefully) sorted out - he doesn't actually owe any money so would have nothing to hide from me.

That's what the basis of the complaint would be - failing to close the account properly (from DH) and failing to contact him appropriately (ie at home when no response from bus. add.) and instead informing me that my accounts were to be closed.

Complain Tiffany. I used to work for RBS under a separate hat and i would never ever in a million years bank with them again.

First Direct and Barclays are my preference.

ajandjjmum · 21/06/2011 19:34

Hey - don't we own RBS. Can't we instruct them NOT to close OP's account as we're their bosses!!! Grin
