Natwest Meeting

Just had a call from Natwest asking to arrange a meeting re my overdraft. With the option to increase or reduce it as they have noticed I am always in it! I have been aiming to start cutting it down by about £50 a month until its all done. I have an advantage gold account so I don't think they can take my overdraft away from me?! I've never had a meeting like this, does anyone have any experience of them? Feel a bit sick Confused

Don't worry, it's usually so they can sell you crap that you don't need (life insurance etc).

They will try and sell you a loan, I bet.

It is because you have ad gold and are using your od. Do you actually use any of the benefits of the account? If not get them to change it back at the meeting.

It will be about trying to sell you other products that are linked to the account, very much a discussion about your of and info gathering then moving onto as you've got this acc let's help you make the most of it.

Always remember that you are the customer in these situations - and also bear in mind that your bank is a business, mostly interested in making money. You being constantly in an overdraft situation is good news for them because you're paying through the nose on interest. Talk through your plan to cut the overdraft down, listen to any ideas they have, see what options are on the table, but don't sign up for anything on the day. They may try to move you into another of their products like a consolidation loan, for example.

If you're constantly in debt you would probably benefit more from a session with a free debt advice counsellor like CAB or CCCS. They will give you genuinely impartial advice - something your bank is unlikely to do.

Thank you everyone! Feel better now! Also remembered that last time I had a Nat West meeting they tried to sell me a loan, so llareggub I think you are right, cheeky bastards! Chil1234, will look into that. The problem was that I lost my job and had to move house a year and a bit ok so i had to go right to the end of my overdraft. Even though I now live within my wages Im not earning enough to drag myself out of the depths of it!

Will definitely not sign up to anything on the day, even the lady making the appt was very pushy!
