We are only thankfully 50 pound a month down but expecting it to drop further as dd2 now gets free child care vouchers from April.
No new award notice or letter explaining reduction but was half expecting it.
Spoke to hmrc today to explain about changes to dd2 and was greeted with an 'if your payment award has gone down but circumstances haven't changed please visit website' guy i spoke to said they are being inundated with calls.

Did you check out your likely award via the Benefits Checker on Turn2Us? If you have a better idea of what your entitlement is, it can put you in a position of strength when tackling HMRC

They cut a bunch of people off. Claimed they were earning over £42K.

Ponders · 13/04/2011 23:40

I don't see how they know already what people earned last year unless they have really improved their systems all of a sudden? DH only just got his P60 for last year.

expatinscotland · 13/04/2011 23:47

I don't, either, but it's been happening.

At any rate, WTC's been frozen so no one will be seeing any increase there - wouldn't want the lot of the working poor to be any better when inflation's 4% and petrol prices are reaching ever new highs.

Gotta pay for wars and Olympics and bailing out banks whilst they get fat bonuses. There's no more money, my arse.

@expatinscotland. There are plenty of MN boards dedicated to politics where you can have a good whinge about the government. The Money board is really about offering practical help with finances.

LOL @ Chil of all people trying to dictate how someone posts and becoming the Anne Diamond of MN.

PMSL!

People are allowed to post whatever comment I like so long as it is not against guidelines, which my comments are not.

Don't waste your time ringing their 0845 number, Lily. Send them a letter, via Recorded Delivery, detailing your new circumstances and requesting an adjustment.

If you don't hear from them in 4 weeks, send them another letter.

Also, let your MP know if you get nowhere. I've found them quite helpful in such situations.

expatinscotland · 14/04/2011 11:00

whatever comment they like.

Lilyloo · 14/04/2011 13:27

Ponders the guy on the phone said they have already made changes as they have until 20 June to get new award notices out but new tax year started 6 April ?
I think it is because we are now earning closer to the new government threshold than before.
Thanks for links , advice will check it out now.

The moneysavingexpert forums are also a goldmine for good information regarding tax credits.

Just another source.

After a massive cock up that was their fault on our working tax credits, I no longer contact them by phone. It costs a fortune. It's 96p for a first-class Recorded Delivery letter and then you have a solid record of having kept them properly informed, which is your part of the bargain.

Honestly, if you're entitled, it's worth that 96p, IMO.
