Plumber/boiler fiiter not VAT registered -A problem?

He has been establised 30 plus so no fly by night Offer 5 year guarantees etc

no. why would it be? it only means he is a small outfit, turning over below the threshold.

Not being vat registered is absolutely fine and legal.

If you trust him and his work and he's Gas Safe registered then go for it.

Doesn't it just mean he doesn't earn enough for him to charge and you to pay VAT?

Just make sure he has all of the applicable registrations to deal with your source of heating, and a personal recommendation is always good too.

No, not at all. Lots of small firms deliberately keep their turnover below the threshold so they can keep their prices low.

Thanks guys I found out that I have to pay for the materials directly with supplier as presumably he has no credit . I then pay the balance to the installer. So long as 5 year guarantee is given by manufacturdThis does of course make the thing more transparent I guess

He probably does it that way to keep his turnover below the VAT threshold - certainly that's what my plumber does.
