Sure Start maternit grant and EU immigrants?

My stepdad and his partner have just found out she is 3 months pregnant and although they both work are having a bit of financial problems at the moment ,they both work to pay the bills at the mo but not a lot of spare cash for now as they are paying off old debts.

His DP moved here from an EU country over a year ago (possibly 2) and has been with him since.

Anywa he already has twins with my mum and claimed the Sure Start grant for them when they were born but this will be his DP's first child.

So does anyone know if they would be entitled to the Sure Start Grant under the new rules?

I should say that I'm not interested in hearing that they should be financially stable etc but like I say they are having a temporary money issue which will be sorted in the long run.

TIA :)

The criteria changed to first child only from April so if either has previous children they wont qualify. They also have to be on certain benefits so if both working then that may also rule them out.

Thanks happy :)

I knew about the first child change but I was'nt sure if it counted for the mother and father, it will be his third child (2nd pregnancy, first was twins) so I guess they won't be entitled.

I know they are both in low paid jobs at the moment so not sure about the benefits side of things.

Turn2Us has a very good benefit checker facility. Point your stepfather in its direction and he can work out quite easily what, if anything, he and his partner are entitled to.
