Dodgy dealings at Amazon.co.uk?

A friend of mine has found a payment on his credit card to the tune of £217.00 for someting that he has no knowledge of made to Amazon.
He was advised to contact Amazon which has to be done via email. They responded quite quickly and requested that his credit card statement be faxed over to them and they would investigate, which he did as was promised a response within 48 hours.
Five days later dispite him having sent two further emails he has heard nothing.
Any advice please?

It's not Amazon who he should contact but his bank. They will usually reverse the payment after an investigation (i.e. they'll deal with Amazon).

It's probably someone else placing an order with his card rather than Amazon debiting the money for a laugh.

He has been in touch with his credit card company and it was them that told him to get in touch with Amazon.

I realise that it is probably someone who has somehow managed to get hold of his credit card number and opened an account using his card.

He is just a bit peeved at Amazon's lack of customer service, in that they have left him in the dark and have ignored his emails.

I think he will probably have to get back to the credit card company and hope that they will deal with it.

He could phone Amazon-they do have a customer service number (you can find it by doing a search on google-you cant find it on the actual site). Less frustrating than waiting for replies to emails.

well he should phone the bank back and get them to look at it again.

If they don't he should switch credit cards: this has happened to me twice and the bank sorted it all out both times (HSBC).

SenoraPostrophe, I think if this doesn't get sorted out he may well change his credit card company, I don't know who he is with ATM.

It is up to the credit card company. We once had transactions on one of our cards from 3 separate American car sales websites (like autotrader) which were credited back with no fuss; then 2 from a Chinese fantasy football site, at which point we stopped the card and did have to fill in forms. The transactions had been converted from euros and when they were reconverted for the credits we lost a few quid on the conversion rate

Then later it happened again on an American game site and I was actually sent the emails with the name of the person trying to use the card to register - it was the one that had already been stopped and when it didn't work he tried again with a different card and I still got the email! I kept emailing the game site but they never replied even though they had the player's id etc. I sent all the details to Egg who said they would try to pursue it but weren't hopeful and I never heard any more.

My credit card details were used fraudulently a few weeks ago. Because of the way in which it was done (two transactons within an hour but over 150 miles apart with the credit card present) my credit card company picked it up and contacted me before the statement went out.

It was all recredited to me, but the most important part of it as far as I was concerned was to get my credit card cancelled and a new one sent out. If it isn't an error on Amazon's part, Someone has his account details and could do it again!

Our credit card was used fraudently the other month - seeral hundreds of pounts to a sister company of lastminute.com, and also about £50 to a London borough - a fine by looks of it.
Dh didn't bother with the companies. He got straight onto his credit card company, who immediately got ont
he case. It has all been credited back to us.

I used to work for amazon, and kow that they cant really do much, unless they get a court order for the info (cant remember the right word, but it begins with an S)They cant say who it shipped to, or even confirm an order was placed.
