Any thoughts on them - are they any good?

I am thinking of getting one but not sure on if they're good which is the best how they work etc etc.

This link might help you. I did wonder if they charged a lot for "loading" the cash but it doesn't look as if they do.

Most of them either charge you for loading them, or a % of what u spend. Is there a specific reason you want one? If your bank have issued you with a visa debit card you hav similar purchase protection with this as you get with a credit card, so this may be sufficient for you?

I do have a debit card yes.

basically DP is travelling with work, but was after leaving me his card details incase i need anything (am expecting so am in need of getting a pushchair/all of the bits & bobs etc) while he's away - he comes back when i'm 37+ weeks and basically until he's away as awful as it sounds we can't really afford to get the bigger stuff. My thought was to use the prepaid card for him to load on and me use here, (also in future would be good for our online shopping bits & bobs etc) I am unable to get any credit at all, and indeed even if I could have been very burnt so have no intention of an over draft much less a credit card lol.

other option of course is for DP to transfer me the money each month - however, I wanted to put some of my own on it as well - also i'd be worried that anything in my personal account would get swallowed by 'every day' needs and then i'd not have anything to show for it lol.

looking at them though, they don't look as good as they first appear?

How about opening a separate current account or savings account that has a debit card, then the money doesn't get mixed up with your everyday money and you can put money in there as well if you want to keep it separate? Or I think o2 do a card like a prepay credit card which is free but you have to be on o2, they used to do it anyway - I got one for my mil!

tbh I never thought of that, we had wanted to keep things seperate until after our divorces however I guess we could use one for the bills to come out of after, maybe that would be the better choice?
