Do you have kids? If so then it would be a 2 bed, if you tick the right boxes...homeless, due to be evicted bla bla...

spookylips · 19/10/2005 23:40

its not for me as its for my mum - she is single

Your best bet is to get the forms. i think a single person gets a bedsit/flat...or miraclulasly house. HTH

It all depends on which area of the country you live in. If you live in London or South East accommodation is in high demand/short supply so single people are not a priority unless you come into a vunerable category.

HA's usually have a higher space standards than councils. So a single person if they can get accepted would be offered a bedsit or a 1 bed flat. Although this could also be true of a council some would also put a family in a 1 bed and count the living room towards the bedrooms.

If you are in the SE ask the council about hard to let properties where no-one wants to live. They can be ok - friends of mine got together and got a 2 bed mainsonette on 10th floor - it's lovely.

Ask your local HA's if they take direct applicants or whether you need to be nominated by the council. Lots of them now don't have their own waiting lists.

Do put your name on the council's waiting list - it can be useful. If you get a job at the other end of the country you can ask to be nominated to the new council as an incoming worker.

Hope this is useful
