Children's bank accounts for expats

I would like to open UK bank accounts for my two DCs. DD already has one, but it now gives 0% interest, which seems rather pathetic even in this day and age.
There are lots of children's bank accounts out there which offer better interest rates, but most seem to be unavailable to expats living abroad.
Does anyone know of any accounts that can be opened on behalf of children living abroad. My parents are happy to take responsibility for the accounts if necessary.

TIA.

How old are your dc's? Some banks allow grandparents to open savings accounts in trust for the children, although they would need to provide ID eg birth certificates, and only people with access to the accounts would be the grandparents, however this is usually an option which would only be open to young children. Natwest do a young saver which works like this, however the interest isn't great, but is a variable rate so will improve when rates go up. I know that with this account you and your dc's will have no access to the money, only the person named on account. Do you have a uk bank account? Again, depending on age of dc's your own bank may be more likely to allow you to open them an account due to you already being a customer.

Hi Rockchick
Thanks for your input.
My DCs are 2 and 4 years old, so not having access at the moment is no problem. I want to open accounts for long term saving anyway.

My parents would have no problem opening accounts in their own names in trust, if that was the best option.

I do have accounts with Lloyds and HSBC, though neither is really active anymore.

I might investigate the Natwest account. Thanks

I wonder if anyone else has any ideas?
