Ebay purchaser not received item

twinsetandpearls · 16/10/2005 22:48

I recently sold an item to an ebay bidder, the bidder contacted me and asked me to stop the sale early for a reasonable price. I felt a little uneasy doing this but agreed as she offered me a fair price.

I posted the item last Monday and she says she has not recieved it. I do say on my listing that I do not take responsibilty for lost items, but this is complicated by the fact it was in effect sold out of ebay and was a private transaction.

What do I do now?

Has she paid, twinset????

startingtobehalloweenylover · 16/10/2005 22:53

well.. seeing as you state that you take no responsibility then you are not obliged to give her a refund

if the transaction didn't take place through ebay then she can't leave you negative feedback

it sounds like she does this a lot... asks peiople to end auction and then get a refund (leaving her with the item and the money)...

OR, you could give her a refund and then claim it back from royal mail

twinsetandpearls · 16/10/2005 22:57

She has paid JanH. I have just checked her feedback and like mine it is 100% positive. But just as she can't leave me negative feedback for a loss of item if it was bought out of an auction a seller couldn't do the same to her so I have no way of knowing if she has done this before.

If I send her the proof of posting should I send her a photocopy or original.

Exams at the end of the week I so don't need this stress!

seriously, explain that it was her choice to do this out of ebay and that you stated that you wouldn't be responsible for lost items.
she could have paid extra for insurance through post

as such you will not refund the money, but you are willing to send her proof of posting so she can take it up with the post office

twinsetandpearls · 16/10/2005 23:00

But should I keep a copy of the proof of posting to protect myself from any comeback.

yes you should!!!!!

JanH · 16/10/2005 23:03

Send her photocopy - hang on to original!

She has paid, you have posted, end of story surely. (Have been working at Express Gifts for nearly 3 months now and you wouldn't believe the number of people who "never receive" stuff - some of them get credits of £100s because you can't prove anything, and the couriers are quite unreliable, but eventually the company says sorry, this has to stop...)

twinsetandpearls · 16/10/2005 23:06

That is what I thought. Have just been on royal mail website entered in posting details and they have just given me lists of reasons why it hasn't arrived.

The parcel was too big to fit through a letter box, it could be with a neighbour or perhaps it is at the post office and they have not noticed the card.

Or maybe they are dishonest.

tbh i don't really think she has any comeback against you... although yes, send a copy of the PoP

twinsetandpearls · 16/10/2005 23:15

Have emailed them back pointing to my 100% positive feedback and that I state on my listings that I am not responsible for items lost in the post.

I have told them that I have checked ebay and paypal policy but because the item was sold out of auction it is not covered. I have checked with the Royal Mail website and they are saying the item could still be in transit. I have advised them to check with neighbours, behind flower pots etc as the item was too large to fit through a letter box, or to check with the local post office incase it has been retured to the depot.

I will send them a copy of the proof of posting so they can take the matter up with the Royal Mail.
