Is there a Family Law specialist out there?

Posted this on Relationships but it was suggested I post it here too:

What happens if there is no financial settlement agreed after divorce?

My solicitor said to me at the time the divorce went through that I should NOT re-marry until a settlement is reached. But I am not sure why or where this leaves me. He is FLIPPIN expensive and I dont want to get into it all with him until or unless I really have to.

ExH disappeared abroad and i have no contact. One child.

Anyone?

Try posting this on legal. There are a couple of solicitors on there that will probably be able to advise you. Your issue is more legal than financial.

well at any time exh can return and say right I want to sort out the finances now - ie maybe you are remarried to a millionaire or have won the lottery?

Unlikely i know but i would suggest sorting it - what if you inherit - it gets messy

It's possible that what your solicitor meant was not to apply for decree absolute until the finances had been signed off.

That's standard practice.

You should really get a consent order signed off covering all issues and including a clause that neither of you canmake a claim against one another for anything else.
