Tax Credits - how do you escalate matters ?

We've a claim in from December 2010, acknowledged on their system on 10th January with a 3 week deadline of 31st January. Mid January they telephoned me, asked some questions and said that it was all straightforward. Time passes and nothing else happened.

Spoke on 10th February and they emailed some "specialist team" but as of 16th February they have had no response and their stock answer that "they are looking at my case" cannot be verified because they, the people on the phone, don't even know (or seemingly care) whether this email has been received.

I am continually informed that there is no telephone number to get to speak to people past the telephonists and thus, no cage to rattle when deadlines have slipped and yet no-one seems to give a damn.

We took on some jobs because we qualified for tax credits and need the income to pay for childcare. robbing Peter to pay Paul to cover childcare this month will see the bank empty and yet we are owed thousands in tax credits.

Anyone know, aside from letters to Preston, just how to get to the organ grinders and decision makers ? Thanks.
