WTC and term time working

Can anyone tell me how it works if you work term time only to fit in with your DCs? I am a single mum and have just applied for a job in a school, 17.5 hours per week. As it's term time only it works out at 38 weeks a year. Do WTC accept this as working 16+ hours or do they aveerage it out over the year, in which case I wouldn't be working 16+ hours? Anyone know?

WTC just accept this as 16+ hours a week, it isnt averaged out. Ive been working 20 hours a week term time for some time and claiming WTC, all above board and no problems. Good luck, hope you get the job!

When I took a job at our local play school I asked this and was told that if I work 16+ hours on the weeks I work that is good enough.

I've just renegotiated my hours at work (not the play group now) and I am now working 30 hours on the weeks I work. I take unpaid leave for the vast majority of the school hols (though I do have to work some of the summer).
When I asked my boss how to timesheet this she said that I still work for them in ths chool hols but I am choosing to take unpaid leave. So my 30+ hours are unpaid.
Meaning it's much the same as when I worked at playgroup (except I couldn't choose not to work in the school hols before)

My 30 hrs a week now count as full time (36 weeks @30 hours), but would only be part time if I averaged what I work over the full 52 week year.

I'm still waiting to find out whether I'll actually be any better off financially than I was before over. It seems likely that I won't be better off after the reduced my WTC and tax me on the additional pay. My child care costs are going down so I get less towards those too, although I benefit from spending time with ds and not running round trying to arrange childcare.

But basically yes, you count as being 17.7 hours a week becasuse that is the average of what you work on the weeks you work. The rest is considered as unpaid leave (you could be asked to work this if the employer was open, but they're aren't)
