Will Insurance payout for toddler drawing on sofa?

Just the above my idiot husband left a biro out this morning, I hadn't realised and while I was making breakfast getting the dc ready for school my 2 yo ds decided to be all artistic Hmm and has scribbled all over the cream leather sofa aarrghhhh

I have read our policy and it says that if the damage is deliberately caused by a member of your family then you are not covered....I have a nasty feeling that this would include a two year old even though he didn't deliberately destroy it, prob thought he was making it better....maybe

Anyway just wondering if it was even worth me calling them (we are with More Than)

Will also be posting on housekeeping for tips on removing blue biro Grin

I think they will tuen down the claim to be honest

But baby wipes and hairspray are a good start!

Babywipes remove EVERYTHING. Honest. Including, possibly, the surface of your sofa so use with caution.

AlicesWonderland · 09/02/2011 19:18

thanks that's what has just been suggested on my other thread Grin

babywipes are not working off to try the hairspray now

Why don't you "accidentally" spill some paint or something over it and claim then?

theyoungvisiter · 09/02/2011 19:25

er, cos that would be insurance fraud?!

Oh sorry about the babywipes. They got biro off our walls - though they did take quite a lot of paint off too.

BertieBotts · 09/02/2011 19:28

But technically it was an accident. I don't know anything about insurance anyway, that was just what my ex always said you should do

Ciske · 09/02/2011 19:31

By coincidence, I raised a similar issue with my insurance company this week. Accidental damage by a toddler is covered, I don't think deliberate or not deliberate comes into it as they are too young for that. However, in my case furniture is excluded, apparently that's not automatic in every house insurance policy.

Just ring them and find out, at worst you lose 10 minutes of your time explaining the issue.

monkeyfacegrace · 09/02/2011 19:36

You can buy biro remover. Its like a pritt stick, you rub it on then leave it to 'dissolve' the biro, then just buff it off.

I ordered some with my new sofa from DFS.

Didnt help with the nail varnish that my fucker of a son decorated it with Grin

AlicesWonderland · 09/02/2011 19:41

ooh thanks Ciske I suppose it can't hurt to ask Grin
