Sorry if this is a ridiculous question.

My salary PA is 37545k gross but I work PT so actually it's about 22k.

I would still actually have to earn over the threshold before being taxed at 40% wouldn't I?

Its how much you earn thats important, not how many hours you earn it over.

You will get taxed up to 22K, not up to 37K

It's how much you actually earn, not war you would earn if you worked full time. Besides, the 40% threshold is 35K PLUS the tax free threshold, so you have to earn 45 to qualify. So even if you worked full time you'd be fine on your salary. ( actually, not sure exactly where the threshold is, but it's over 40)
