Claiming Tax Back

A while ago a lady mentioned claiming back money from the tax office as she was on maternity leave for part of the tax year.

Is this possible?

Are there any restrictions/time limits/etc?

If so, how do you do this? (links, etc would be appreciated).

Marking my place as I'm probably in this situation. Dh has changed jobs & dropped a band but I assume his will come under the tax return

I expect she was due money back because her personal allowance was set against her employment income but because she went on maternity leave part way through the year she didn't get the full benefit.

Write to your tax office for the year in question with details of your gross income and paye deducted. how much you get back will depend on when you went on maternity leave. If it was 31 March, for example, you are not likely to be due anything.

You can claim for 2007/08 up until 5 April 2012 I think, but that's off the top of my head. Google error or mistake claim to confirm.
