can you ask friends? Ca I ask what it is for? Could you go to cAB?

Frizbe · 11/10/2005 09:21

best thing I can think of is ring CAB, as they're very good at this sort of thing.

aloha · 11/10/2005 09:22

what do you need the money for? Why is it so urgent?

monstersmummy · 11/10/2005 09:25

council tax...we got summoned to court on 3rd nov but will take upto 2 weeks for the money to clear their system apparently.

ringing round friends as we speak

its not like we haven't tried to pay it, feel like such a cheap skate now

MM - Can't you arrange to pay it over 3 months?? I'm sure they are heavy handed to begin with, but usually ease the pressure off if you give them some money right now and promise (sign an agreement) to pay them in another 2 installments. That way you only need to raise about £350 right away??

have you tried that??? I mean its usually a last last LAST resort to get the bailiffs involved.

Fangache · 11/10/2005 09:30

MM - You can just phone the CAB.

Fangache · 11/10/2005 09:30

Or DebtLine.... they can advise too. Or what about a free consultation with a Solicitor????

MonstorMummy,

I know from my own financial broblems and dealing with the council tax that you can get it sorted without raising the money.
I got a summons to go to court and i rang the council explained my financial hardship, and asked if i could do an arrangement on my £1200 arrears. They agreed to this in april so i pay my normal tax of £86.25 per month and they have arranged i pay back £20.00 per month on an agreed arrangement till 2010.
Please call them and explain your situation, they listened to mine and have helped me. I also in the past let them down with arrangements, but they have always put me back on them if i am truthful about situ.
I hope you can get something sorted.

Don't try everything else first! Get some professional advice! You may also think about getting a benefits check if things are this hard. You may be eligible for more money.
