How much is your weekly grocery budget?

I just wondered how much people spend each week. I work part time and basically most of my wages goes on groceries. I'm trying to cut it down and have worked out meal plans and buying cheap versions of household stuff.

I spend about £80 a week, 2 adults, 2 kids.

I spend £50-75 in Waitrose for 2 adults and 1 child.

DD has school dinners and OH and I sometimes take food with us to work. We eat out once a week.

Dropdeadfred · 31/01/2011 13:06

£150-£200 including cleaning products, cat food and dd's packed luch stuff

fifi25 · 31/01/2011 13:16

£120 a week 1 adult, 3 kids and 2 dogs. Mines going up and up. B4 xmas it was about £90. I do mine online through Tesco and buy meat etc thats on offer and work meals around the offers. I spent a while doing an online this week and got it back down to £96. There seems to be more offers online than in the shop.

itssnotfunny · 31/01/2011 18:55

i have got mine down to £50-£60 a week by meal planning and shoppingonline so imnot tempted and also i can compare other instore brands easier as im notin as much a rush. We are a family of 4 big eaters.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 31/01/2011 18:57

at the moment it is £40 a week. For 2 adults, 2 children and a cat. Including all household stuff and toiletries.

We're trying to claw back some money Grin

PlentyOfParsnips · 31/01/2011 19:04

£60-70 a week in Sainsburys, which covers food, toiletries and cleaning products for 2 adults, 2 adult-sized teens and 2 cats. I'm the only one who doesn't buy lunch out though. Only a few weeks ago it was 50-60 a week. Prices are creeping up fast!

fifi25 · 31/01/2011 21:07

My mam does Sainsburys but she noticed hers had went up quite a bit so changed to Tesco which she thought was cheaper. I think my Tesco has gone up as well though. Ive definately noticed an increse and not just 2p here and there, more like 20p.

About 75 pounds a week for 2 adults and 3 children, a bit more some weeks when I have to buy loo roll and washing powder.

With top ups at the Co-Op and filling the freezer monthly it works out about 350-375 per calendar month.

ivykaty44 · 31/01/2011 21:16

I have recently made an effort to cut my grocery bill. I like to do one stock up shop and then follow this with a couple of top up shops and then this week - being the last in the four weeks is my eat everything we have so we don't waste anything.

The first week I spent £65 in sainsbury. The following weeks I spent £19 and £18 with a combination of shopping first in lidl and then sainsbury for the bits lidl don't do Smile

I am going to have to do a stock up shop at the end of this week - and am thinking asda maybe the way forward Grin

there are only 2 of us and that includes baking

DanJARMouse · 31/01/2011 21:21

This is month 1 of a trial for us! I spent £150 in Tesco last week as a "stock up" shop, so lots of tins/cereals/freezer stuff, so Im expecting tomorrows shop to come in at £50 or less.

We do menu plan, and 2 out of 3 kids have school dinners mon-fri.

When I was shopping weekly, it was anywhere from £80-110

fakeblondie · 01/02/2011 23:55

About 150 + a week on 2 adults and 4 children plus top ups at local co-op

Gonzo33 · 02/02/2011 08:10

I find that I spend less if I do a monthly shop than if I do a weekly shop. I do mine online as well so that I don't just throw anything in the trolley (also means I can get the housework doone whilst waiting for the shopping to be delivered). Well that's what I do if I'm in UK. Where we are now I have to go into the shop and I spend about £120 more a month than I would in UK.

fifi25 · 02/02/2011 21:31

After you get your 1st Tesco order you can start a shop and add things all week. This helps me as i dont end up going into the shops for something i have forgot and spending a fortune on other stuff. I have decided this year to do everyshop at tesco for the clubcard points. Ive got £15 since Jan. You can use these for your xmas shop or double your points at xmas and use them on Tesco Direct.

happybubblebrain · 02/02/2011 22:50

I keep it under £35 per week, for one adult and one child. We eat really well and this includes all cleaning products and toiletries. I used to spend an average of £60 a week (3 years ago) but I was throwing too much away and buying mostly from Tescos, without looking at the prices too carefully. Now I shop around in Aldis, Asda, Sainsburys and sometimes Tescos. I know where the best deals for everything are and I hardly throw any food away.

Ivette · 02/02/2011 23:00

40-70 pw,2 adults and 1 kid

alfiesmadmother · 04/02/2011 13:56

I have 25 a week for two adults and 4 childre, the big sacks of potatoes help and cheap farm eggs!!!
