Does anyone know how i can find out which two weeks are taken into account when companies work out your maternity allowance. In the winter i work 32 hrs a week and summer months 24 hrs a week. I am able to work mor and want to esure i get the best deal, but the company wont tell me which weeks are taken in to account for obvious reasons. They are stingy gets

If you are employed you should be getting maternity pay, not maternity allowance.
Anyway, I hope this helps.
How is my SMP worked out?
Your employer will look at your gross earnings paid to you in a set period. This is usually the eight week period up to and including the 15th week before your expected week of childbirth. The period your employer uses may vary depending on how often you are paid ? weekly, monthly or other intervals.

BTW you should get 90% of your normal pay for 6 weeks than you go onto the standard rate of £106 a week.
When is your baby due?

If you get a pay rise which is backdated into the set period your employer should re-calculate your SMP. This changes from 6 April 2005, as a result of a judgement by the European Court of Justice. If your employer awards a pay rise which is effective at any time from the start of the set period used to work out your SMP and the end of your maternity leave your employer must work out your SMP again and pay you any balance due to you. For more information about this judgement and its impact on your SMP see some questions and answers about the ECJ Judgment.

See leaflet NI 17A ? A Guide to Maternity Benefits or speak to your employer for more details of how your SMP is worked out
