XMAS jobs ...is it worth it ??

Have got a form for evening merchandisers in Wilkos.
I think it would be roughly 4 evenings a week 6-10pm which is fine, could do no problem.

Only thing is, is it worth it ?? I would be doing it to get more money for xmas but would my CTC be drastically reduced then ?

I assume i'd be earming about £80 a week so not mega money.

Looked on the Inland Revenue site but couldn't work it out.

Is it a case of my money would stay the same now but i'd have to declare it when i claim next time or not ???

Hmm. If you are getting CTC it may not be worth it.

charliecat · 29/09/2005 12:53

You can fill in your details on the tax credit website...see what it springs up....

nutcracker · 29/09/2005 12:53

Oh crap really , could really do with earning some extra money right now.

Damned if i do damned if i don't then.

I tried that Charlie but cos it's now september iut bases it on me earning that in the last 5 mths and so doesn't give an accurate quote.

I would ring them but my cold has made me almost deaf today which wouldn't make for an easy conversation.

Does it say anywhere what the cut off points are? I know 25 grand - 50 grand get the same 545 quid a year...so whats the tiers before that?

nutcracker · 29/09/2005 12:55

I asked a couple of years ago and i think they said that as long as I didn't earn over £1000 in 16 weeks then i didn't have to declare it, but i'm just not sure.

And if you ring them and tell them they will probably put it in the computer that you are earning it and you will get 10 forms telling you so...

nutcracker · 29/09/2005 12:57

Yeah thats what i'm worried about Charlie.

If i did 16 weeks I would earn £1280 so add that to dp's salary and our income for this year then would be £15780.

Shame theres not a really really simple calcualtor...

charliecat · 29/09/2005 13:01

is this any use?

nutcracker · 29/09/2005 13:01

Yeah it is.

I mean i don't mind if my CTC goes down so long as it means that by working I am still better off even if it's only by £20 or so.

I'll have to try and ring them when i can hear properly.

Oooh i'll try on there, thanks.

Hmm well according to that site we'd get £107 CTC a week.

At the mo we get £108 CTC and £16 WTC so thats not bad IF it's right.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 29/09/2005 13:10

I'd be more worried about WTC, b/c it's assessed on joint income and if your partner or spouse is skating around the £14000 cut off figure it could be close.

nutcracker · 29/09/2005 13:18

I don't mind if we stop getting WTC cos we only get £16 a week anyhow.
