Anyone use Internet Banking? Your thoughts?

I signed up for internet banking about a month ago. It took some time to set up the initial vendor list and account information. I've just paid my bills online for the first time. It took 10 minutes, and was so easy that it almost seems too good to be true! I'd hesitated in the past because I didn't feel that it was secure.

Does anyone else here do their banking online? What are your impressions? Good or bad experiences?

I have done this with my bank for last 5 years. Really convenient.

gingerbear · 20/09/2005 21:55

Most of my bills are by Direct debit though.

Hattie05 · 20/09/2005 21:56

I have been with First direct since they started and moved to online banking as soon as that started its fab! Wouldn't know how to do anything now without the ability to do it all online!

Milliways · 20/09/2005 21:58

All the time here. It's great.

franke · 20/09/2005 21:58

Ditto Hattie's post. Particularly now I live in Germany.

Yes, with A&L, have been doing it for ages, fairly trouble-free except that payments never take a predictable amount of time so you do have to allow the maximum time they say. OTOH A&L pay a high rate of interest on their premium current account so it's probably worth doing it ahead of time.

With mine I can set up payments on-line (one-off and SO - not DD I don't think) but can't cancel the one-offs which is annoying - can cancel a DD on a whim which is not good news!

Very secure though, so-far-touch-wood.

Been with smile (the internet branch of The Co-Operative Bank) since it started (we were already with the Co-op). Can't fault them, have never had a single problem with them - wouldn't bank any other way.

The only time we've had hassle has been other institutions' failure to keep up to date - eg., when we applied for a new mortgage when we moved house we had to provide bank statements. The mortgage lender wouldn't accept the statements we had printed off ourselves (you don't get postal statments with internet banking - well, you don't with smile, other banks may be different). We had to send our printed statements to smile HQ, where they had to be stamped, signed and verified by a mamber of staff, and only then would the mortgage lender accept them. Which was a bit of a palaver but not smile's fault!

I do know what you mean about the ease of it though - I remember the first time I transferred a large sum of money online. Just press enter and it's gone! I remember thinking...if it disappears how do I prove that I moved it, or that it existed in the first place

Had Barclays online but have sort of fallen out with them over their Additions account (adding useless things and upping the charges) so have transferred to A&L. Transfer not altogether smooth - eg 4 SOs went out of both a/cs but not disasterous because they were all our/the kid's a/cs so I withdrew the money and paid it back into the current a/c. Also have Egg savings a/c.

Pixiefish · 20/09/2005 22:13

Online banking with Barclays- i love it and i've been at it for years now (snigger, snigger)

Also have ISA's online and sort them from there

jampots · 20/09/2005 22:14

excellent

prettyfly1 · 21/09/2005 13:31

nationwide - again love it. so convenient and very secure

oliveoil · 21/09/2005 13:33

I am a dinosaur and don't think it is secure at all, always reading things in the paper about fraud. So no internet banking in the olive house.

All mine are on dd anyway so all bills paid automatically.

JoolsToo · 21/09/2005 13:35

yes - bank of Scotland
no problems and very useful

Cam · 21/09/2005 13:39

yes have done for a few years and love it, only go to a bank to pay in cheques now.

iota · 21/09/2005 13:40

First Direct are fab

iota · 21/09/2005 13:40

or even DEFFO BRILLL

...that's the first time i've used that

Redtartanlass · 21/09/2005 14:21

First Direct - Best Bank in the World. Can not rembember the last time I went physically into a bank.

Love them and internet banking!!!

mawbroon · 21/09/2005 14:38

Royal Bank of Scotland. Have used their online banking for a couple of years now and don't know what I would do without it.

I reckon that if everyone was to use it, then any one individuals chance of being a victim of fraud is very small.

ever since I could and love the convenience. As soon as I get paid I sort out all the bills and can calculate exactly how much money is left that month. I then go to a branch and take out the cash I need for the month. That's all my banking finished until the next month.
I also keep track of my credit card on-line and have frequently caught errors/double payments etc that I'm not sure I would have by looking at a printed monthly atatement.

sweetheart · 21/09/2005 15:08

I use HSBC and have done for a long time. It's a brilliant way to pay all your utility bills or store accounts.

I use internet banking everyday and it has been a god send for our finances, no more bank charges for going overdrawn without relising for one!!!

Iklboo · 21/09/2005 15:21

We do with barclays and it's brilliant for us. Pay bills etc electronically without having to queue at banks at lunchtime etc (godsend at 33 weeks pregnant and DH not working anywhere near a bank), set up Direct Debits etc & check balances. We've never (touch wood)

Iklboo · 21/09/2005 15:21

Had any problems I meant to say
